Ars Longa House Artists Association

The Ars Longa House Artists Association supports the professional practice of artists from different disciplines living at Ars Longa Artists’ House, the continuity of their artistic work, and cultural exchange. The association brings together the experience, expertise and knowledge across disciplines developed over long artistic careers.

Its work is founded on the intrinsic value of art, artistic quality and strengthening the conditions in which artists work. The association runs the exhibition programmes at Galleria Longa and Fönari window gallery, and organises public events, workshops and discussions. It promotes collaboration between artists and builds connections with arts and cultural organisations and practitioners in Finland and internationally.

Ethical principles

The association’s activities are guided by professionalism, artistic freedom, equality and responsibility. Artists’ right to choose their subjects, methods and forms of expression is fundamental to artistic practice. The association respects the diversity of art, authorship, copyright and the contribution of everyone involved.

Community means mutual respect, shared responsibility and the opportunity to participate in decisions about the association’s activities. Openness and transparency are central to its decision-making and communication. Its activities promote environmental and ethical sustainability. Artistic freedom carries a responsibility to respect the rights and dignity of others.

Safe space principles apply in the association’s gallery spaces and other shared event spaces. Discrimination, harassment and inappropriate treatment are not tolerated, and concerns are addressed.

Membership

Professional artists living at Ars Longa Artists’ House who accept the association’s purpose and rules may apply for full membership.

Individuals and organisations with legal personality who wish to support the association’s purpose and activities may apply for supporting membership. Applications for full and supporting membership are approved by the association’s board.
